Ben Gilbey is a graphic designer living in Richmond. This is a collection of things that inspire me from the world of art, design, music and technology - with a sprinkling of stuff that just makes me laugh.

Mount Rushmore work in progress

stevemilbourne:

Whilst randomly searching for Mount Rushmore, for no particular reason. I discovered on Wikipedia that it was never actually finished because they ran out of money.

The photo on top shows the model they made with the original design, and the actual mountain carving below - you can see where they must have just started on Lincoln’s hand.

Tree Line

Zander Olsen creates interesting ‘interventions in the landscape’, by wrapping trees in white material to highlight the relationship between treeline and horizon from the camera’s viewpoint. I am reminded of Hipgnosis and Christo and Jeanne Claude (but on a more modest scale).

While looking for a Hipgnosis image, I realised that it was a Peter Saville cover I actually had in mind - a cheeky reference to Hipgnosis in itself - Section 25, From The Hip.
